Aegerine
Specimen #ae.mal.aut
Mt. Malosa
Chilwa
Alkaline Province
Zomba District
Malawi
7.5 x 1.0 x 0.8cm
Small Cabinet
$45

Aegerine is named after Aegir, Scandinavian God of the Sea.  This specimen consists of a long slender, prismatic, opaque, greenish black colored piece which singly terminated.  A few what I would describe as contact points, but otherwise no damage.  Difficult to photograph, this piece is very lustrous and displays much better in person.

Azurite, Cerrusite & Arsentsumebite
Specimen #az,cer.na.1.ehn
Tsumeb Mine
Tsumeb
Namibia
6.0x5.2x2.1 cm
Small Cabinet
Ex Ernie Schlichter Collection
Defunct Locale
$175

This specimen consists of a rather hefty matrix (galena?) that plays host to numerous inky blue and gemmy azurite xls to 8mm. One cluster has been cleaved. In addition, there are numerous clear to off white to golden yellow tinted cerrusite xls to 8mm. There are several small micro xls of what appears to be Arsentsumebite a rather rare mineral.

Bultfontienite & Calcite
Specimen #bul,cal.sa.sin
N'Chwaning Mine
Kuruman
Cape Province
South Africa
2.7 x 2.2 x 2.0cm

Type Locality (South Africa)
Rare Species
$165

This specimen consists of numerous pale pink spherical or botryoidal masses of bultfontienite xls to 7mm (a few cleaved) resting on a bed of water clear to colorless calcite xls and matrix.  South Africa is the Type Locality for this species and it is considered a rare species.

Calcite
Specimen #cal.na.buy
Tsumeb Mine
Tsumeb
Namibia
3.4 x 2.6 x 2.5cm
Miniature
Defunct Locale
$75

This specimen consists of numerous pale yellow calcite xls that take on a form which I refer to as elongated  rhombohedrons, resembling thick knife blades.  They are all quite gemmy and display virtually no damage.  Their shape is quite unique and much better in person.  They rest on a bed of gemmy, water clear quartz xls and matrix.  An excellent specimen from a defunct locale.

Calcite
Specimen #cal.tun.gut
Hammam Zribe
Tunisia
5.9 x 3.9 x 2.8cm
Small Cabinet
$45

This is a locality piece!  It consists of a large, opaque scalenohedral calcite xl that displays some etching, numerous striations, some staining, and has another generation of small calcite xls growing on it.  There is damage to what I would call the backside of this specimen.  All is all, this is an interesting specimen from a hard to obtain locale.  Purchase $100 of other specimens from this Africa update and get this specimen for free, just by mentioning this offer in your e-mail to me.  Just checking who's actually reading my dribble.

Cerussite
Specimen #cer.na.bu
Tsumeb Mine
Tsumeb
Namibia
6.2 x 2.3 x 1.5cm
Small Cabinet
Defunct Locale
Twinned Crystal

$75

An excellent example of older material from this defunct locale.  This piece consists of numerous twinned off white to pale yellow Cerussite xls to 1.0cm.  No appreciable damage.  The xls rest of a matrix of what appears to be calcite with numerous metallic looking xls intermingled within the cerrusite.  They appear to me to be either limonite, galena or perhaps descloizite, but are too small for me to be sure.  None the less, an attractive specimen from a defunct locale.

Dioptase, Calcite & Duftite
Specimen #dpt.na.1.vcn
Tsumeb Mine
Tsumeb
Namibia
4.4x3.0x1.9 cm
Miniature
Defunct Locale
Slightly Fluorescent
$120

There's a whole lot going on with this specimen. Emerald green gemmy dioptase xls to 4mm; clear to brown tinted calcite xls; and what appears to be pale green duftite. A bit of edge fray but otherwise intact. Excellent specimen!

PLEASE NOTE: My camera has a real tough time rendering true color when it comes to dioptase. I color balanced my photos as best I could, but the dioptase is more emerald green in person than the photos portray. Mildly fluorescent under SW UV light.

Dioptase, Galena & Calcite
Specimen #dpt,gal,cal.na.1.aubn
Kaokoveld Mine
Kaokoveld Plateau
Kunene Region
Namibia
3.2 x 3.0 x 1.7cm
Small Miniature
Slightly Fluorescent
$95

There's a whole lot going on with this specimen. Emerald green gemmy dioptase xls to 2mm; off white to water clear calcite xls; and dark gray metallic galena xls. No damage to this excellent specimen!

PLEASE NOTE: My camera has a real tough time rendering true color when it comes to dioptase. I color balanced my photos as best I could, but the dioptase is more emerald green in person than the photos portray. Mildly fluorescent under SW UV light.

Inesite
Specimen #in.za.1.hct
N'Chwaning II Mine
Kuruman
Cape Province
South Africa
3.6x2.2x1.5 cm
Miniature
$90

This specimen consists of matrix that has been covered by orangy-red inesite xls to 5mm. The xls form acicular, fan shaped, radiating clusters that are quite attractive. A few trivial dings only visible under magnification. This specimen is much better in person than my humble photos portray.

Hematite stained Quartz
Specimen #he,qu.mad.uyt
Itremo
Madagascar
6.3 x 4.2 x 1.5cm
Small Cabinet
$75

This specimen consists of numerous off white, to opaque, to stained quartz xls to about 1.5cm on a sand like matrix.  There is a variety of hematite staining to the xls all across the specimen  resulting in a rather interesting pattern.  No damage.

Rhodochrosite & Manganite
Specimen #rho.za.3.omi
Hotazel Mine
Kalahari
Manganese Fields
Northern Cape Province
South Africa
2.9 x 1.8 x 1.8 cm
Thumbnail
Ex Katherine Woest Collection
$150

This specimen consists of a base or matrix of lustrous jet black manganite that hosts a cherry red "blob" of botryoidal rhodochrosite. One small nick to the rhodo. This is one unusual and attractive specimen in my opinion. The rhodo displays a rather unique sheen which I haven't seen in many specimens from this locale.

Rhodochrosite
Specimen #rho.za.2.gkt
Wessels Mine
Kalahari
Manganese Fields
South Africa
3.0x2.7x1.5 cm
Thumbnail
$120

The color of this specimen reminds me of pink (bazooka) bubble gum. It's comprised of a "blob" of botryoidal bright pink rhodochrosite with no damage. What more is there to say that the pictures don't already portray!

Smithsonite on Galena
Specimen #sm,ga.na.urw
Tsumeb Mine
Tsumeb
Namibia
7.0 x 4.7 x 2.5cm
Large Miniature
Defunct Locale
$250

This specimen consists a bed of galena that hosts numerous gemmy clear to opaque rhombohedral (bladed) smithsonite xls to 4mm. There is some minor chaffing to this piece, but it is minimal and does not detract.  Cool rock! Much better in person,

Sugilite
Specimen #su.za.ntb
Wessels Mine
Kalahari manganese fields
Northern Cape Province
South Africa
9.7x5.3x3.1 cm
Cabinet
$160

This specimen consists of a cut and polished sugilite specimen. One side was cut, exposing a rather interesting, colorful and intricately patterned face. I don't come across specimens of this quality very often. Enjoy!

Vanadinite and Barite
Specimen #van.mo.1.uat
Mibladen Mine
Midelt
Morocco
5.5 x 3.5 x 2.1cm
Small Cabinet
$95

This specimen consists of  numerous gemmy, burnt orange colored, stop sign shaped vanadinite xls to 8mm. They rest on numerous dark gray barite blades and are quite aesthetically presented.  A very nice specimen from this famous locale.

Wulfenite
Specimen #wul.na.1.oys
Tsumeb Mine
Tsumeb
Namibia
4.0x2.2x1.7 cm
Miniature
Defunct Locale
Fluorescent
$95

This specimen consists of 4 larger (and several smaller) honey brown wulfenite xls to 9mm on matrix. The xls all appear to be intact and partially gemmy. Also found on this specimen are micro quartz xls along with a druzy calcite coating which glows bright red under SW UV light.
