June 17, 2007 Update

Crocoite
Specimen #Aus01
Dundas Extended Mine
Dundas
Tasmania
Australia
3.2 x 2.7 x 2.2cm
Small Miniature
$15

To start off my Australian update, here's a very colorful and what I would call, a "fun" specimen. It's comprised of a number of elegant, gemmy red-orange xls to 1.1cm.  Enjoy!

Gypsum var. Selenite
Specimen #Aus02
Australia
11.0 x 9.9 x 5.2cm
Cabinet
$150
ex Martin Zinn III collection #7863

Here's one of
the most unusual specimens I've ever offered for sale. It is truly a 3-dimensional specimen which has grown "roots".  As a forester, I really appreciate this piece as it reminds me more of a plant with roots than a mineral specimen.  The "upper" portion of the specimen is made up of a solid mass of intricate and transparent to sandy brown xls to 3.0cm. The "roots" are made up of a 6 clusters of selenite xls that pass from the lower layer on through to the upper.  A truly remarkable and unique mineral specimen.  Wow!

Malachite and Wulfenite
Specimen #Aus03
Whim Creek Mine
Port Headland
Western Australia
12.2 x 5.9 x 2.8cm
Cabinet
$65

I'm not quite sure how to describe this piece.  It reminds me of a landscape, where the malachite forms a mountain peak while the surrounding matrix and wulfenite xls, the valley below.  OK, enough daydreaming.  The malachite "cone" is velvety looking, somewhat botroidal and measures 1.7x1.7cm.  The valley is dotted with numerous (100+) golden colored and somewhat gemmy wulfenite xls to 3mm. Cool rock!

Malachite and Wulfenite
Specimen #Aus04
Whim Creek Mine
Port Headland
Western Australia
12.2 x 5.9 x 2.8cm
Cabinet
$75

This specimen is literally covered with botroidal malachite masses ranging in size from 1mm to 2.3cm  The xls range in color from emerald green to and almost bluish green.  To accent the mass of malachite, there are a number of golden wulfenite xls (to 1mm) accenting the malachite. The larger malachite "masses" remind me of tribbles. The more I look at this piece, the more I like it! Way cool rock!

Malachite and Cerrusite
Specimen #Aus05
Brown's Prospect
Rum Jungle
Northern Territory
Australia
6.3 x 4.5 x 2.7cm
Small Cabinet

Here's a specimen that's made up of dark emerald to pale green botroidal malachite masses to 2.7cm in concert with golden cerrusite "blobs" to 2mm. The malachite almost looks velvety to the touch. Cool rock!

Miniature
$50

Here's a specimen that's made up of dark emerald malachite masses to 1.8cm which have replaced azurite.  The malachite "shimmers' as you hold it to the light and looks velvety to the touch.  An unusual and attractive display specimen.
