Australian Minerals - Stellerite

June 17, 2007 Update

Stellerite
Specimen #Stellerite01
Tamber Springs
New South Wales
Australia
10.4 x 8.0 x 6.3cm
Cabinet
$125

Following, are a number of very fine Australian Stellerite specimens which are part of the Zeolite group. These come from the Coonabarabran area, part of the Garrawilla Volcanics, Warrambungle Range.

Crystals are distinctly tabular in habit.  Isolate groups are rare and usually the Stellerite occurs as parallel to sub-parallel slightly divergent groups.  Individual crystal faces area nearly always discernible.

Stellerite is commonly associated with heulandite, laumonite, or analcime.  The crystals closely resemble stilbite and indeed had been identified as such by both collectors and museums until relatively recent research proved their true identity.

This is an absolutely wonderful combination specimen.  It's made up of  a multitude of burnt orange to sandy brown Stellerite xls along with a few clusters of quartz xls.  It stands up on its own and is my second favorite one of the bunch.

This is the only matrix specimen I've ever offered as almost all specimens come as individual xls or masses.  It is made up of two prominent xls that sit on a bed of mini quartz xls.  The larger xl measures 3.5x2.3xl and kinda reminds me of a tombstone.  This is a very attractive specimen and is my favorite one in the bunch.
