Rhodochrosite, Quartz and Pyrite
Specimen #Key24
3.4 x 3.0 x 1.2cm
Miniature
Liu Bao Mine
Guangxi Zhuang A.R.
China

What more can I say that the pictures don't already convey.  This piece is a two sided plate in my opinion as it can be displayed from either side.  One side is almost completely covered (photo) by light pink rhodo rosettes, while the other side is home to quartz, pyrite and some rhodo xls.  Minor edge damage where it was released from the matrix.  Possible minor wolframite on this piece as well.

Cabinet
Herja
Romania
Defunct Locality
$125

Here's a rather large and showy Romanian specimen!  It consists of numerous masses of rhodochrosite rosettes to over 1cm that are pale pink to almost white in color.  Some exhibit what appears to be a bit of iron staining casting a yellowish tone on them. They are surrounded by numerous quartz xls and micro galena xls.  No damage to the rhodo but there are a few broken quartz points. Excellent specimen from a defunct local.

Antique Specimen
Type Locality

While visiting Jorde Fabre in Tucson, we found this awesome antique specimen.  According to Jorde, it hails from mining operations that took place over 100 years ago.  Specimens from Nagyag are very few and far between, to say the least!

This specimen consists of a mass of alabandite that has a number of what I would describe as open vugs, that are lined with lustrous pink rhodochrosite rosettes.  In addition to there are a number of small quartz xls as well as druzy pyrite.   No damage.

Here's a colorful and showy specimen from Peru.  It's made up of altered rhombs of pinkish to lavender opaque rhodo xls.  The xls are shaped like mini pyramids. Not a form of rhodochrosite xls that I'm used to seeing, but attractive none the less.

This piece reminds me of the surface of mars.  It is nearly round and displays what look like canals or channels.  I would consider this piece botryoidal with a druzy quartz coating giving it its sheen.  This is one cool rock indeed!
