Native Gold with Quartz
Specimen #Gold0509a
Round Mountain Mine
Nye County, Nevada

3.7 x 3.0 x 2.2cm
Miniature
19.44 grams total weight
Spinel Twin
Rare Habit
$4200

To kick off our latest gold update, we bring you a number of specimens from Round Mountain.  What makes the first few specimens very unique is that they are found on matrix with quartz xls intact.  Round Mountain gold is formed in quartz adularia veins.  Subsequent sericitic alteration of the system, leaves much of the gold floating in clay, with no matrix.

The first few specimens are unique in that the accenting quartz crystals are still present, are intact (for the most part) and provide a very attractive contrast to the gold.  Personally, I find them very attractive as there is a good contrast between the gold, quartz and matrix.  A purest might appreciate gold all by itself, but I will leave that up to each individual to decide for him/herself.

This specimen displays spinel twinning, which is a form of
contact twinning where two octahedral crystals twin at their bases.  This specimen exhibits great deep golden color and displays this very rare and spectacular form of gold twining.  It also exhibits flattened octahedra, hoppered crystal faces and cubo octahedral xls.  This is an incredible and very attractive mineral specimen!

Native Gold with Quartz
Specimen #Gold0509b
Round Mountain Mine
Nye County, Nevada

4.4 x 4.3 x 3.0cm
Miniature
62.84 grams total weight
Rare Habit
$4900

The color of gold from Round Mountain can vary a bit between specimens.  It depends on where the crystal was situated relative to the water table.  Above the water table oxidation caused microscopic dissolution of silver from the surface of the gold crystals, making specimens appear darker with a richer gold color.

This piece of matrix with quartz is nearly covered with "tortilla" like gold xls.  The gold forms "sheets" which are either flat or partially rolled up.  It displays wonderful color, luster and an intricate and complicated crystalline structure.  It exhibits flattened octahedra xls, hoppered crystal faces, cubo octahedral xls and some herringbone patterns.  This is one cool gold specimen!  [Please note - The color of the specimen in the You Tube video is a bit off and is not quite representative of the true color of the piece].

Native Gold with Quartz
Specimen #Gold0509c
Round Mountain Mine
Nye County, Nevada

5.1 x 4.1 x 3.8cm
Small Cabinet
71 grams total weight
Rare Habit
$4750

This piece of matrix with quartz is nearly covered with geometrically complex gold xls. Some of the xls are wire like in shape, forming parallel wire masses.  As with the previous specimen, the gold on this specimen has formed like a sheet on top of the quartz and matrix.  Looking closely, this specimen also displays a unique type of deposition or growth.  I would call it parallel deposition of extremely thin layers.  Being a forester, it reminds me of topographic or contour lines on a map. It displays wonderful color and luster with flattened octahedra xls, hoppered crystal faces, cubo octahedral xls and a bit of a herringbone pattern.

To continue our latest gold update I present for your viewing pleasure an incredible example of Mother Natures finest work.  This specimen consists of well crystallized gold and gold leaf weighing in at 32 grams.  It is all gold with no matrix.  It has excellent color and luster and displays flattened octahedra xls, hoppered crystal faces and cubo octahedral xls.  There is a small crystal that is attached loosely (like a hinge) to the main body.  Care should be taken when handling this specimen.  The last photo (in my palm) was taken in natural daylight.  This is an incredible and attractive gold specimen!

This specimen displays wonderful color, size and an intricate and complicated crystalline structure.  It displays flattened octahedra xls, hoppered crystal faces, cubo octahedral xls and a herringbone pattern. This is an incredible example of mother natures finest!  WOW!

Native Gold
Specimen #Gold05
Round Mountain Mine
Nye County, Nevada

5.1 x 2.4 x 1.4cm
37.62 grams
Small Cabinet
$3600

This specimen displays a rather complicated crystalline structure, and it's form reminds me of a barnyard animal.  Any guesses?  It displays flattened octahedra xls, hoppered crystal faces, cubo octahedral xls, dendritic branching and a herringbone pattern. This is an incredible example of mother natures finest!

Native Gold on Quartz
Specimen #Gold06
Round Mountain Mine
Nye County, Nevada

5.3 x 3.3 x 1.5cm
23.80 grams (total weight including quartz)
Small Cabinet
$4500

This is a wonderful matrix specimen!  It displays flattened octahedra with hoppered crystal faces and a bit of dendritic branching.  The color of the gold on this specimen is a bit less yellow than some of  the other specimens listed in this update.   A very attractive specimen indeed!

Native Gold on Quartz
Specimen #Gold07
Alaska Mine
Pike
Sierra County
California

3.9 x 2.5 x 2.5cm
22.61 grams (total weight including quartz)
Miniature
$1000

Here is the one specimen in this update that is not from Round Mountain.  It is made up of a base quartz matrix that is home to numerous slender gold wires scattered all over the piece, some of which display what appears to be spinel twinning.  What more can I say that my pictures don't already portray.  This is one cool rock!

Gold Vial(s)
Specimen #Gold_vial
Product of the USA
6.6 x 1.7cm (bottle dimensions)
14 grams (Bottle, liquid & gold)
Miniature
$20 each

These vials are awesome and potentially a decent investment as the price of gold climbs higher and higher.  I purchased them when gold prices were much lower, so I'm passing on my good fortune to you. I can't say how much gold is in each vial, but at $10 each, they're a steal.  The gold leaf in each little bottle is .971 pure.  As you can see in the photo directly below, the leaf is very lustrous and shiny.  To my mind, these are a wonderful and fun collector item!

Only 13 Bottles Left!
