This is an awesome piece of mother earth. Although I’ve seen calcite in many shapes and forms, this one is new to me. It appears that this piece started life as fluorite with the calcite “overgrowing” it. The fluorite is colorless to water clear, with a tinge of smokiness on the edges of the major crystal, which measures 1.2 x 0.9cm. The calcite crystals are scalenohedral and display two generations of growth. They are a lustrous, chocolaty brown color and are mostly undamaged. A few of the major terminations are dinged, but this can only be seen under magnification and does not detract from this specimen’s displayability.
