Rhodochrosite and Fluorite
Specimen #rhch01
8.0 x 7.0 x 4.0cm
Small Cabinet
Liu Bao Mine
Guangxi Zhuang A.R.
China
$395

To kick off my 2007 Rhodochrosite update, I've decided to list a couple of very colorful and attractive Chinese specimens.  China is probably one of the most productive countries in the world at the present time for mineral specimens.  I see quite a number of rhodo specimens coming out of China, especially on E-bay.  The bottom line is sorting through all of the highly priced junk and finding good quality specimens at affordable prices. You have to have patience and be willing to put in the hours.

This is an excellent combination specimen that contains rhodochrosite, fluorite, quartz, pyrite and galena.  The rhodo xls on this specimen come in two forms.  One larger pink rhomb (1.6x1.2cm) and a number of pale pink bladed xls.  They're nestled amongst a "stripe" of dark purple fluorite xls to 0.7cm.  This was probably the best and most affordable specimen I came across this past trip to Tucson.

Enjoy the rest of my Rhodo update.  It was definitely a labor of love!

Here's a specimen that's made up of two larger gemmy pink rhodo xls to 1.4cm along with a few gemmy, light purple "stepped" fluorite xls to 1cm. An attractive and very displayable specimen.  Great Color!

Rhodochrosite
Specimen #rhmx01
5.2 x 4.9 x 3.5cm
Small Cabinet

Here's a very interesting looking specimen from Mexico.  It's made up of a number of "stacked" rhombs that are pale pink in color and have a druzy coating of what could be mini pyrite xls. This is a cool rock!

6.5 x 3.5 x 3.3cm
Small Cabinet
Aguilla Serdan
Mexico
$35

Here's a hunk of matrix that has a coating of pale pink/orangy scalenohedral rhodo xls to 6mm.  This form of rhodo is somewhat rare coming from Mexico and the xls on this piece are in good shape and somewhat gemmy.  Nice specimen!

Rhodochrosite
Specimen #rhmx03
3.4 x 2.3 x 1.5cm
Miniature
San Luis Potosi

$35

Here's another very colorful and showy specimen from Mexico.  This specimen is comprised of a number of botroidal rhodo masses on matrix. Great bubble gum color!

Rhodochrosite
Specimen #rhperu03
5.2 x 5.1 x 4.7cm
Small Cabinet
Peru
$50

Here's a very colorful and showy specimen from Peru.  It's comprised of a layer of rhombohedral rhodo xls to 6mm over matrix.  The xls are bright pink, with sharp rhombs that are very attractive to my mind.  Great Color!

Rhodochrosite
Specimen #rhperu04
6.0 x 4.5 x 3.0cm
Small Cabinet
Manuelita Mine
Morococha District
Yauli Province
Junin Department, Peru

Here's a colorful and showy specimen from Peru.  It's made up of altered rhombs of pinkish to lavender opaque rhodo xls.  Not a form of rhodochrosite xls that I'm used to seeing, but attractive none the less.

Small Cabinet
Manuelita Mine
Morococha District
Yauli Province

Rhodochrosite and Pyrite
Specimen #rhperu06
6.8 x 4.1 x 3.2cm
Small Cabinet
Peru
$25

Here's a rather "hefty" specimen from Peru. It's comprised of a smattering of rhodo rhombs to 3-4mm over a matrix of Pyrite, Sphalerite and probably Galena (giving it the heft).  The rhombs are pale pink in color and are in excellent condition.  Nice piece!

Rhodochrosite and Quartz
Specimen #rhrom01
16.6 x 12.0 x 5.7cm
Large Cabinet
Cavnic, Romania
$345

Here's a large showy specimen from Romania.  This one almost made it into my own collection, but I had second thoughts and decided to share it with you.  It's made up of a first generation of quartz xls to 3.7cm that are covered by a generation of pale pink bladed rhodo xls.  It's a very unique specimen and a good example of Romanian specimens which I don't come across all often. Cool rock!

Rhodochrosite
Specimen #rhbarlow01
3.4 x 2.0 x 1.5cm
Miniature
Chacqua Mine
Uchuchaqua, Peru
ex F. John Barlow Collection #S114
$145

Here's the last of my hoard of Barlow Rhodos.  Alas, all good things must come to an end.  I was lucky enough to hook up with John's nephew from whom I purchased a number of his grandfather's specimens.  This one is made up of a number of very gemmy pale cherry red scalenohedral rhodo xls to 1.4cm. A wonderful example of mother nature.  Comes with Johns original collection card. Enjoy!
