Rhodochrosite and Fluorite
Specimen #rhusa01
3.5 x 3.3 x 1.8cm
Miniature
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado
$250

To kick off my USA Rhodo page, here is what I would consider to be a really fine Sweet Home piece.  I was lucky enough to meet Dr. Karen Wenrich of Crystals Unlimited at Tucson this year and she had a small hoard of quality Sweet Home specimens for sale (at reasonable prices).  This one is definitely my favorite as it's aesthetically very pleasing to the eye.  it's made up of a number of pale pink and very gemmy rhodo rhombs to 0.7cm.  Complimenting the rhodo is a single dark purple, gemmy fluorite xl.  It measures 0.5x0.5cm and has modified faces.  To top it off, the specimens is covered in glass like quartz spires.  Need I remind you that specimens of this quality and at this price are getting ever harder to find. It comes perched on it's own plastic base.
Great specimen from a closed local!

I love these Lone Tree specimens. I bought one for my own collection quite some time ago and do not see them offered for sale very often.  Here's your chance to own a very colorful and showy specimen from Nevada.  It's made up of a single prominent glassy orange rhodo ball (0.5cm) imbedded in a matrix of Romanechite.  As you look around, there are a number of other spheres nestled around on this piece.  There's not many of these floating around!

Rhodochrosite and Quartz (and more)
Specimen #rhusa11
6.0 x 4.2 x 3.0cm
Small Cabinet
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado
$195

For all you Sweet Home junkies, this specimen is the Holy Grail!  I purchased it from Dr. Karen Wenrich who was one of the authors of the Sweet Home M.R. issue (see below).  I met her in Tucson this year and while I was checking out with my hoard of goodies, she started looking closer at this piece and identified the following minerals species on it: Rhodochrosite, Pyrite, Tetrahedrite, Galena, Chalcopyrite and Apatite.  Wow, that's a mouthful.  The Rhodo "cluster" measures 2.3x1.5cm and is damage free.  Enjoy!

ex Russell Jones Collection
$150

Here's a matrix specimen that's covered on two sides by a druzy coating of small quartz xls with a subsequent generation of rhombohedral rhodo xls to 2.5cm.  I don't specimens of this size very often from this local.  It can be displayed from either side and is a showy and attractive specimen in my opinion.

Rhodochrosite, Quartz & Fluorite
Specimen #rhusa13
16.2 x 9.3 x 5.5cm
Large Cabinet
04-14 Pocket
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado

Wow......Have I saved my best for last, or what?  This specimens is made up of a granitic slab that is absolutely covered by glassy, gemmy pink to cherry red rhodo xls to 2.5cm.  I counted at least 30 major (>1cm) rhodo xls and that does not even count the countless smaller ones.  Besides the rhodo xls, there are a number of small pale purple fluorite xls to .5cm.  In addition to the rhodo and fluorite, the specimen is covered with needle like quartz "spires" adding a nice contrast.  To top it all off, there is also minor pyrite on this piece.  I cannot stress the fact enough that pieces of this quality are now going for what I consider to be "silly money" at all of the shows throughout the year.  Here's your chance to own a piece of history as the mine is closed and what's out there is it.  In my humble opinion, this is a KILLER specimen.  One that would showcase anyone's mineral collection.
WOW!
