A note about Sweet Home specimens - Specimens of this quality and at this price are getting harder and harder to find. We had to do quite a bit of searching at this past Tucson show to find reasonably priced specimens.  Most dealers were selling pieces in the high hundreds to multiple thousands.  Who knows how long we'll be able to sell specimens at these prices?

Rhodochrosite, Quartz and Pyrite
Specimen #rh08sh01
5.9 x 3.6 x 3.0cm
Small Cabinet
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado
Defunct Locality
$75

To kick off my Sweet Home page, here is piece that is comprised of a couple of pale pink and gemmy rhombs to 7mm.  Complimenting the rhombs are numerous glass like quartz spires and golden pyrite xls.  The edge of the major rhomb has been cleaved where it was removed from surrounding matrix and some of the quartz terminations are damaged.

Here's a individual rhomb that has a bit of druzy quartz attached to its base and a bit more on its top.  The rhomb displays a dark pink color and is contacted on two of its sides.  Nice cube! Comes mounted on a clear acrylic base.

This is an excellent combination specimen that contains rhodochrosite, fluorite, quartz, pyrite and possibly galena.  There are several rhombs found on this specimen, the largest measuring 1.1x1.0cm.  This xl is intact with only a bit of edge contact and its face appears to be "etched".  There are also a number of pale purple fluorite cubes to 4mm along with golden reflective pyrite xls.  There is a minor amount of what appears to be galena as well.  Comes mounted on a clear acrylic base. A very attractive display specimen.

Please note!  The lighting scheme that I used to photograph this specimen, make the rhodo rhombs and the fluorite cubes look darker than they naturally are.

This piece displays a smorgasbord of Sweet Home species.  Both sides of it are almost completely covered with dark pink rhombs to 9mm.  Many of the rhombs are intact and sharp, while many others display edge chaffing. In addition to the rhodochrosite, there are a few clusters of pale purple fluorite cubes adding a very nice accent to the rhodochrosite.  Also found on this specimen are:  Tetrahedrite, Sphalerite and Chalcopyrite.  An excellent and affordable Sweet Home specimen.

Here's a group of individual rhombs that have a bit of druzy quartz attached at their base and a bit more on top.  The largest rhomb is nearly completely intact, cherry pink in color and measures 1.3x1.1cm.  The other rhombs are nicked and one shows signs of a previously attached rhomb.  This is a very nice display specimen and really shows the color that Sweet Home pieces are famous for!  Comes mounted on a clear acrylic base.

This piece is comprised of numerous pale pink and gemmy rhombs to 5mm.  Complimenting the rhombs are numerous glass like quartz spires and golden chalcopyrite xls.  The major rhomb on top and many of the others are in perfect condition while one group has sustained mining operation damage.  Nice display piece!  Comes mounted on a clear acrylic base.

This is by far, the nicest specimen I have to offer in this update from Sweet Home.  It's made up of numerous pale pink and very gemmy rhombs to 1cm.  All but a few of the rhombs on this specimen are intact displaying sharp rhombohedral edges.  The ones that display incomplete edges are located around the periphery of the specimen.  I assume that this occurred during either mining or subsequent restoration activities.  Complimenting the rhombs are numerous glass like quartz spires and pale purple fluorite cubes to 7mm.  The fluorite xls display heavily modified cubic faces.  Finally, there are a number of water clear apatite xls to 2mm that have formed on top of many of the rhombs.  Under SW UV light, the apatite xls glow a ghostly orangey color. This is an excellent specimen at what I consider to be a very reasonable price.

This specimen consists of a mass of golden hued tetrahedrite that has a number of pale pink rhodochrosite rhombs (to 4mm) and quartz spires attached on top of it.  Many of the quartz xls have mini rhodo rhombs attached along their length making this a very attractive mineral specimen.  Located on the bottom of this specimen is a patch of silvery galena xls.  No damage that I can see except for maybe one broken quartz point.   Comes mounted on a clear acrylic base.

This is a really cute combination specimen!  I love the way the fluorite cubes are perched on top of the rhodo rhomb.  The fluorite xls display a light purple zoning and the upper one forms a nice dodecahedron.  The rhodo rhomb (to 1cm) is dark pink, very gemmy and mostly intact.  It appears as though it was contacted, but this is on the lower face and not the display face.  Lastly, there is a bit of chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite attached on one side of this specimen.  Comes mounted on a clear acrylic base.

Rhodochrosite and Huebnerite

This specimen consists of a singly terminated huebnerite xl (1.3x0.3cm) that is perched on a bed of rhodochrosite rhombs to 6mm.  The dark pink rhombs have a minor amount of quartz attached to them and are mostly intact except for some minor edge abrasion.  Most of the specimens I've come across that display huebnerite do not have xls of this quality or size.  Nice display piece!
