At this years Tucson show, there were a number of dealers who were selling Chinese Rhodochrosite specimens.  Before making my selections for purchase, I took the time to look through just about every dealers stock to compare quality and price.  After doing my research, I selected the following specimens for their quality, composition, species present and affordability.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I did picking them out!  Andrei

Rhodochrosite, Fluorite, Calcite and Pyrite
Specimen #rh09ch01
Wudong Mine
Liubao
Wushou Prefecture
Guangxi Zhuang A. R.
China
7.7 x 5.8 x 4.3cm
Small Cabinet
Mildly Fluorescent
$295

This specimen consists of a base matrix (mostly pale pink calcite) that hosts numerous cherry red rhodochrosite rhombs to 8mm.  Nestled amongst them are off white to pale purple heavily modified fluorite cubes that fluoresce a ghostly purple color when exposed to SW UV light.  Accenting this piece are a number of lustrous pyrite xls.  This specimen has a sawn back.  I cannot see anything that I would describe as damage to this piece except for a few trivial edge dings that are visible under magnification.  All in all this is an excellent display specimen with great color and presentation.

Specimen #rh09ch02
Wudong Mine
Liubao
Wushou Prefecture
Guangxi Zhuang A. R.
China
8.0 x 5.8 x 4.5cm
Small Cabinet
$195

This specimen consists of a group of clusters (to 2.1cm) of dark pink rhodochrosite rhombs that display an excellent stair step pattern.  There is a bit of edge abrasion present (in my opinion).  They are nested in the middle of  a bed of ice cube clear heavily modified cubic fluorite xls as well as pale pink scalenohedral calcite xls.  Also present on this specimen are numerous lustrous pyrite xls (bottom and back), as well as snow white barite xls.  In my rhodochrosite loving opinion, this is one cool rock!

Rhodochrosite, Fluorite, and Pyrite
Specimen #rh09ch03
Wudong Mine
Liubao
Wushou Prefecture
Guangxi Zhuang A. R.
China
8.1 x 5.1 x 3.2cm
Small Cabinet
$95

This specimen consists of a bit of matrix that is literally covered by cherry red rhodochrosite xls and water clear with purple phantoms, heavily modified cubic fluorite xls.  The rhodo rhombs exhibit a bit of edge damage.  Minor pyrite on this attractive and affordable specimen.

Rhodochrosite, Fluorite, Calcite and Pyrite
Specimen #rh09ch04
Wudong Mine
Liubao
Wushou Prefecture
Guangxi Zhuang A. R.
China
7.8 x 4.8 x 4.6cm
Small Cabinet
$195

I really liked the composition of this specimen as soon as I saw it.  It's comprised of several cherry red rhodochrosite rhombs (to 1.7cm) on a matrix that hosts several pale pink calcite scalenohedrons (to 2.4cm) and numerous modified ice cube clear fluorite xls, some displaying a bit of purple phantoming.  Minor pyrite on this piece with a sawn back.  No noticeable damage to this excellent display specimen and probably my favorite in this offering.

Rhodochrosite, Pyrite and Quartz
Specimen #rh09ch05
Liu Bao Mine
Wuzhou Prefecture
Guangxi Zhuang A.R.
China
8.5 x 5.0 x 2.5cm
Small Cabinet
$395

This specimen is made up of a base matrix (matrix has a few cracks in it, but is stable) that is home to numerous sharp rhombs to 1.3cm.  Chinese material has gotten to the point of rivaling Colorado material in my humble rhodochrosite loving opinion, and this piece proves it.  The rhombs are all sharp, undamaged and vary in color from light to dark pink.  Some even exhibit a bit of gemminess.  What more can I say that the pictures don't?  This is one excellent rhodochrosite specimen!  Also found on this piece are minor quartz and a number of small pyrite xls perched on top of several of the rhodo rhombs.  Wow!
