A note about Sweet Home Specimens - With the price of specimens continuing to escalate at astronomic rates, I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to present quality affordable specimens of this caliber.  My goal has always been to provide y'all with good specimens at affordable prices.  Unless the market moderates or I continue to find dealers who are willing to sell specimens at reasonable prices, this may be my last update of Sweet Home specimens.  We'll see.  For now, sit back and enjoy my offerings.  I've tried (as closely as possible) to capture the actual color of the Rhodochrosite.  The specimens in this update vary in color from light pink to bright cherry red.  I've done my best to match the color in the photographs with their actual color, but different monitors display colors differently.   All the Best, Andrei!

Rhodochrosite and Fluorite
Specimen #SH0901
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado
3.3 x 2.7 x 1.3cm
Miniature
$425

This specimen consists of a mass of cherry red rhodo rhombs that have been partially coated by druzy quartz.  In addition, there are numerous pale purple fluorite cubes adorning this excellent specimen.  The sides of the rhombs may have been cleaved, but I cannot say for sure if they have or have not.  Rhodochrosite can cleave almost perfectly, and I have come across a number of specimens from Sweet Home that have been "cleaned up" by cleaving edges.  Just something to be aware of.  Otherwise, this is an excellent specimen with no discernible damage. Comes mounted on a clear acrylic base.

Rhodochrosite and Quartz
Specimen #SH0902
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado
7.4 x 5.8 x 3.2cm
Small Cabinet
$175

This specimen consists of numerous dark pink rhodo rhombs perched on a bed of water clear quartz spires, the largest rhomb measuring 2.2cm across (approximately). For the most part, most of them appear to be intact, but a few around the periphery appear to be cleaved.  Most of the quartz xls are intact, but there are a few cleaved points.  For the money, this is a excellent specimen, rich in rhodo rhombs.  This specimen has a sawn back.

Rhodochrosite and Quartz
Specimen #SH0903
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado
3.7 x 3.2 x 1.4cm
Miniature
$175

This specimen consists of a cluster of pale cherry red rhodo rhombs to 1.4cm that host a number of  water clear to milky quartz spires.  The rhombs display an intricate and complicated stepped pattern almost giving them a "etched" look.  No discernible damage and minor tetrahedrite.

Rhodochrosite and Quartz
Specimen #SH0904
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado
2.4 x 1.9 x 1.0cm
Thumbnail
$150

This specimen consists of a number of pale pink rhombs to 7mm surrounded by glassy quartz spires.  All of the main display rhombs are intact with what I would a call a few trivial dings, only visible under magnification.  The quartz spires are surprisingly intact with only a couple that have been cleaved. Cute rock! Comes mounted on a clear acrylic base.

Rhodochrosite, Apatite and Quartz
Specimen #SH0905
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado
2.0 x 1.8 x 1.4cm
Thumbnail
Fluorescent
$350

This specimen consists of a mass of gemmy, cherry red rhombs to 1.6cm.  It's really one larger rhomb that hosts a number of "klingons".  The rhombs are very gemmy and for the most part look intact.  As I said earlier, rhodo faces can easily be cleaved by a pro and this technique has been used in the preparation of specimens from Sweet Home for many a year.  What makes this specimen unique are the cylindrical apatite xls (to 5mm) perched around the base of the specimen.  In daylight, they appear a bluish gray color, but when exposed to SW UV light, they glow a bright orange color.  In addition there are a number of glassy quartz spires found on this very cool rock!  This is my favorite piece in this offering. Comes mounted on a clear acrylic base.

Rhodochrosite, Fluorite and Quartz
Specimen #SH0906
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado
1.9 x 1.7 x 1.5cm
Thumbnail

This specimen hails from an older collection that was being sold by Rick Kennedy.  I came across it while chatting with him and snatched it up immediately.  It consists of a single cherry red rhomb which appears somewhat "etched".  On the face of the rhomb are found a mass of pale purple fluorite cubes and a bit of quartz.  There is a bit of matrix still attached to what I would consider the bottom of this specimen.  All in all, the specimen looks intact, but I could describe the edges of it as being worn, possibly considered as damage by some.  Personally, I find it an attractive specimen, and for the bucks, it is quite an affordable specimen, considering it's size and color.

Mildly Fluorescent
$55

The next five specimens I purchased from Pat Haynes at the second open house that John Veevaert hosted this past Tucson show.  Pat is a dealer and collector of fine rare minerals and if you've ever visited the Collector's Edge booth, you'd find Pat hovering above most of us wearing his 10 gallon hat.  When he started unpacking his vast collection of mineral specimens, I noticed his thumbnail Sweet Home specimens.  I selected what I considered to be his best.  They are all quite attractive and extremely affordable.

This specimen consists of a cluster of cherry red rhombs to 0.9cm with minor quartz, tetrahedrite and apatite which glows bright orange under SW UV light.  The rhombs are mostly intact with what I would call trivial edge dings.  Nice little piece!

This specimen consists of a mass of quartz xls that host a cluster (9x5mm) of pale pink and somewhat gemmy rhombs to 2mm.  Scattered about the piece are mini apatite xls which glow bright orange when exposed to SW UV light.  No discernible damage.  Minor tetrahedrite.

This specimen consists of a mass of frosty pink rhodo rhombs (to 1.9cm) that have been coated by druzy quartz.  In addition, there are a few quartz spires attached to the specimen.  There is also minor apatite found on this piece which glows bright orange when exposed to SW UV light. This specimen consists of a mass of tetrahedrite and pyrite that host several pale red rhombs (to 6mm) along with a number of water clear quartz spires.  There is also minor apatite found on this piece which glows bright orange when exposed to SW UV light. No discernible damage.

Rhodochrosite, Fluorite, Apatite and Quartz
Specimen #SH0911
Sweet Home Mine
Alma, Colorado
3.3 x 2.7 x 1.3cm
Thumbnail
Fluorescent
$35

This specimen consists of a mass of water clear quartz spires which host several pale pink rhombs to 4mm. Scattered amongst the "forest" of quartz spires are a number of mini, faint purple fluorite cubes and off white apatite xls which glow bright orange when exposed to SW UV light. Trivial dings to the quartz but otherwise no discernible damage.

This is my favorite specimen of the ones I purchased from Pat.  Thanks for checking out my latest Sweet Home offerings.  I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did finding the specimens and preparing the update.  Na Zdorovye!
