![]() "Wheat Sheaf" Rhodochrosite Specimen #KR01 N'Chwaning Mine Kuruman Cape Province South Africa 3.9 x 2.5 x 1.8cm Miniature Rare Habit $575 This specimen is made up of a mass of "wheat sheaf" bundles of rhodochrosite xls formed on a rhodochrosite and black manganite matrix. This unusual habit displays a very attractive color zonation where the interior portion of an individual bundle displays a light pink core, while the exterior is covered by xls that are bright pink to light cherry red. The exterior of each bundle is formed by a multitude of tightly packed scalenohedral xls that create the distinct "wheat sheaf" look. The photo below displays the previous rhodochrosite layers or deposits that form the base or matrix of this specimen. This specimen displays a very gemmy quality. All of the major crystals on this piece are intact and damage free. |

![]() Rhodochrosite Specimen #KR02 N'Chwaning Mine Kuruman Cape Province South Africa 4.2 x 3.7 x 2.4cm Miniature $1,650 This specimen consists of a bed of black manganite that hosts a number of dark cherry red scalenohedral rhodochrosite xls to 1.3cm. The best way that I could describe this form of scalenohedral formation is modified. The crystals on this specimen look like they were trying to form wheat sheaf bundles but ended up forming this modified form of scalenohedron instead - A rather unusual shape which displays well in person. All of the xls are very gemmy and virtually all of the major xls are damage free. Along the edges of the specimens are a few open vugs that contain what appears to be druzy micro quartz xls. This is my favorite piece in this release as I absolutely love the near blood red color of the xls! |

![]() Rhodochrosite Specimen #KR04 N'Chwaning Mine Kuruman Cape Province South Africa 6.0 x 4.2 x 2.0cm Small Cabinet $4,600 Here's a rather unusual and unique specimen from N'Chwaning. I've never seen anything quite like it, I have to admit. It consists of what I would best describe as a plate or the skin of an orange, once it's been peeled off the fruit. My second photo on the right gives you an idea of the multiple rhodochrosite generations that this specimen is comprised of. What I really like about this specimen is displayed in the two photos below. Although at first glance this piece looks botryoidal in form, closer examination shows that is really made up of a vast myriad of minuscule cherry red rhombohedral crystals with a few jet black manganite xls thrown in for a nice contrast. I consider this specimen to be damage free, but one could argue that upon extraction from whatever housed it, the edges of it were dinged, but I will leave it up to you to decide. The main body of this piece is pristine and makes for an excellent display specimen. I backlit the specimen to show off its incredible color and you can see this in my last photo. The color of this piece along with the black specs of manganite reminds me of a ripe strawberry. Enjoy! |

![]() Rhodochrosite on Manganite Specimen #KR05 N'Chwaning Mine #1 Kuruman, Cape Province South Africa 6.4 x 3.7 x 2.7cm Small Cabinet Rare Habit Defunct Locality $6,500 This specimen is made up of a mass of "wheat sheaf" bundles of rhodochrosite xls formed on a base of jet black and lustrous manganite xls. This unusual habit displays a very attractive (and in my opinion very beautiful) color zonation where the interior portion of an individual xl is bright pink, while the exterior of the "bundle" is covered by xls that are water clear to red. The exterior of each bundle is formed by a multitude of tightly packed scalenohedral xls that display a very gemmy quality. All of the major crystals on this piece are intact and damage free. Specimens of this quality do not come on the market very often, and I feel privileged to offer this one to you. |

![]() Rhodochrosite Specimen #UR01 Uchucchacua Mine Oyon Province Lima Department, Peru 6.5 x 5.7 x 3.2cm Small Cabinet Here's a lustrous and attractive specimen from a world famous locality. This specimen plays host to numerous, glassy, gemmy and light cherry red rhodochrosite rhombs to 1.3cm. As best as I can tell there is no damage to any of them, and I've checked them out under 10x magnification. They rest on a matrix that is comprised of another rhodochrosite generation with micro quartz xls and perhaps calcite as the piece fluoresces weakly under SW UV light. The rhombs display a "stair step" pattern which can be seen in photos below. This is one of the best specimens from Peru that I've had the pleasure of handling. I feel the rhombs compete with those from Sweet Home for size, clarity and color. This is truly an exceptional species and locality example of rhodochrosite. Specimens of this quality have not been produced by this mine in quite some time. |

![]() Rhodochrosite Specimen #UR02 Uchucchacua Mine Oyon Province Lima Department, Peru 3.0 x 2.3 x 1.7cm Large Thumbnail $1,200 This is one awesome piece of Uchucchacua Rhodo glass! It's comprised of pristine cherry red, gemmy rhombs to 1.4cm. Some of the rhombs are modified to display a stair step pattern which can be seen in some of my photos. I have to honestly say that my pictures came out pretty good, but in person, this specimen is truly remarkable. There are a few bits of black manganite attached making for a nice contrast. No damage to this excellent work of mother nature. This is truly an exceptional species and locality example of rhodochrosite. Specimens of this quality have not been produced by this mine in quite some time. |

![]() Rhodochrosite and Quartz Specimen #UR03 Uchucchacua Mine Oyon Province Lima Department, Peru 5.6 x 4.0 x 2.8cm Small Cabinet This specimen consists of matrix that's covered by ice clear quartz xls and a number of gemmy cherry red scalenohedral rhodochrosite xls to 1.9cm. Some of the xls display what I would best describe to be flattened or modified terminations or tips. You can see this effect in my third photo on the left. No damage to any of the main xls on this piece. This is a very attractive combination specimen from a world famous locality. Specimens of this quality have not been produced by this mine in quite some time. |
